Press Release 27/02/2025: Dublin-based ATC Logistics has secured the 2025 AWS Ireland Horizon Award at the third annual AWS Business Breakfast event in Ireland.
This recognition highlights the company’s outstanding contribution to employment, international service expansion, and in contributing positively to Ireland’s reputation as a world-leading location for cloud infrastructure.
Founded in 1979, ATC Logistics has transformed from a family business into a global leader in data centre lifecycle management. Operating from their Baldonnell headquarters in County Dublin, the company provides comprehensive B2B solutions for data centre operations, including secure transport services, installation management, decommissioning expertise, and end-to-end relocation solutions.
According to ATC Logistics Managing Director, Keith Young, the company’s success stems from their “integrated approach to safety protocols, security measures, and sustainability practices.” This has not only enhanced client experiences but has also established new benchmarks in project success rates for ATC, in Ireland, and further afield in places like Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Sweden.
The AWS Business Breakfast event has served as a powerful platform for innovation and collaboration, bringing together industry leaders and stakeholders. The event featured insightful discussions with, Barry Cowen MEP, Muireann Lynch, Senior Research Officer at ESRI, and Jenny Melia, Executive Director of Enterprise Ireland. A highlight of the event was the panel discussion “Irish Cloud Ecosystem Firms and the AI Infrastructure of the Future,” which explored Ireland’s evolution in the cloud and AI landscape.
During the event, AWS again shared key findings from their Ireland Economic Impact Report, underscoring the significant role of cloud computing in Ireland’s economy. AWS first launched an infrastructure region in Ireland in 2007. Today, over 18 years later, it now supports over 10,000 jobs in different parts of the economy.
The event also heard from AWS Infrastructure leaders, including Seattle-based Senior Principal Engineer Nigel McGee, Director of Infrastructure Public Policy EMEA Niamh Gallagher, and AWS Country Lead for Ireland, Neil Morris. In his address, Morris emphasised the importance of firms like ATC Logistics, noting that “These Irish companies have shown themselves to be innovative and willing to adapt, take risks, and grow as the industry changes. These data centre suppliers, which we recognise through the Horizon Award, have been pivotal in establishing Ireland as a world-leading location for data centre infrastructure.”
Enterprise Ireland’s Jenny Melia provided additional perspective on the broader impact, stating, “Over a short space of time, the data centre sector has become a significant part of Ireland’s economy. Using the skills that they have developed on Irish projects, many of these data centre ecosystem firms have gone on to expand their business internationally.”
This prestigious award not only celebrates ATC Logistics’ current achievements but also signals Ireland’s ongoing influence in the global cloud infrastructure sector. As the data centre industry technology continues to evolve, companies like ATC Logistics are ensuring that Ireland remains at the forefront of innovation and excellence in data centre operations.
Beyond creating direct employment of 4,200 here (and around 6,500 in the overall Amazon operations in Ireland), AWS has become a catalyst for job creation across the broader tech ecosystem. More than 3,000 other jobs have been generated in the AWS’s suppliers and contractors. Given these same suppliers and contractors employ a total of 9,000 people, it means that AWS is, on average, directly responsible for one-third of their total employment. This isn’t just about statistics – it’s about real people building careers in Ireland’s burgeoning tech sector.
Over the past decade, we’ve witnessed the emergence of companies like STS Group and H&M Engineering – previous recipients of the Horizon Award – who have evolved from local enterprises into global leaders, exporting their expertise worldwide. ATC Logistics now joins this prestigious roster of Irish success stories.
AWS’s investments have cultivated a fertile ground for innovation and growth in Ireland. With over 500 suppliers benefiting from AWS’s infrastructure development spending, Ireland has carved out a niche as a global hub for cloud infrastructure excellence. This isn’t just about building data centres – it’s about building a sustainable, thriving tech ecosystem that continues to attract international attention.
